How female technicians experience their everyday life at OneCo

According to statistics from Key Institute Sector Report 2024 the energy sector ranks highly in comparisons of working conditions, including sick leave, management support and career opportunities. But the gender balance remains uneven.

At OneCo, several female technicians describe the work environment as positive. This is also emphasised in interviews with employees.

- "We are a close-knit group with great co-operation. I think it's equal and we're all employed on the same terms," says Camilla Johansson, an electricity network technician and team leader in Skaraborg.

At the same time, experience shows that development work remains to be done.

- I don't think it's completely equal. The pay can be lower for women and sometimes customers don't take us female technicians as seriously when it comes to our skills. But most customer meetings are positive and I am treated very well by my colleagues. I couldn't have asked for better colleagues," says Alexandra Kondic, a meter change technician in Stockholm.

OneCo conducts annual salary surveys in accordance with legal requirements and monitors gender equality issues within the organisation.

Helena Nukunuku, a construction technician at OneCo in Malmö, is the only woman in her team. Although she rarely meets other female technicians during her working day, she doesn't notice the gender imbalance much.

- I don't feel much difference. We joke about the same things and have fun together, so I don't think much about being the only woman," she says.

Few women in the profession

For OneCo to continue to develop and achieve its future goals, it needs expertise from all parts of the population. There is still work to be done. Finding a solution to make the profession more attractive to women is important to capitalise on diverse talents and ideas.

- It's a shame that there aren't more women in the industry. I think we need to meet children as early as primary school and show them how much fun the profession is to attract more people. I myself can't imagine a better job," says Camilla Johansson.

Helena Nukunuku and Alexandra Kondic also enjoy the job of technician and the freedom it offers, whether you are male or female.

- The best thing about working at OneCo is that I get to travel around to different places and discover places I never knew existed. Customers often treat me very well. Especially older people who think it's fun to have a female technician," says Helena Nukunuku.

- You never know what your working day will be like! The job is difficult enough to be challenging but not so difficult that you feel you won't make it. I feel that at OneCo we believe in our colleagues and we are given freedom with responsibility," explains Alexandra Kondic.
