Mölndal gets 23,000 new electricity meters

With new functional requirements and the need for updated technology, it was time for Mölndal Energi to replace its old electricity meters. As a step in meeting the requirements of the future and improving the precision of energy measurement, OneCo has installed 23,000 new meters for the electricity network company.

By 1 January 2025, all electricity meters in Sweden must be updated to modern meters, according to a requirement from the Government. To meet the new requirements and ensure reliable and efficient electricity distribution, we at OneCo are responsible for the installation and service of electricity meters throughout the country. Since the spring of 2023, we have been working with electricity meter replacement in Mölndal Energis electricity network. The new smart meters now provide improved conditions for electricity metering in the area.

- "We will benefit greatly from the new meters," says Alexander Ehrensvärd, Metering Manager at Mölndal Energi.

The new electricity meters collect more data and give the electricity network company a better overview and control. This means that they will be able to work more proactively and, for example, solve problems that arise before the electricity network is affected. With updated electricity meters, they will also be better able to analyse the electricity distribution, which will facilitate planning for the power balance in Mölndal.

Mölndal Energi's electricity meter replacement was commissioned by Kamstrup, which has a contract with the electricity network owner. The project took about a year and was completed in summer 2024.

- The key to a successful project of this magnitude is that we have seen it as a joint project and have worked in a solution-oriented way when problems have arisen," explains Alexander Ehrensvärd.

The installation of the new electricity meters is now helping both households and businesses in Mölndal to better control their electricity consumption.
