OneCo builds battery parks to strengthen Sweden's electricity grid
OneCo has signed a framework agreement with an energy storage company for the expansion of energy storage in Sweden for 2024. The first battery park was started in January.
OneCo is now actively entering the energy storage market and building battery parks in several locations in Sweden. The framework agreement signed with an energy storage company makes it possible to install advanced battery systems that increase the stability and balance of the electricity grid. The batteries will be placed around the country and supply up to 20 MW of energy per facility.
The energy storage company provides the battery solutions, while OneCo prepares the land for the batteries and takes care of the installation and commissioning of the energy storage facilities. Once the batteries are in place, they are connected to Svenska kraftnät to distribute the electricity to different parts of Sweden.
- We look forward to actively contributing to an even more secure electricity supply in Sweden through the development of innovative battery parks," says Dick Berg, Business Manager of OneCo Green Energy.
The use of batteries for energy storage is a smart solution to manage the variability of production from renewable energy sources. Batteries help smooth out peaks in electricity production by storing surplus electricity when demand is low and then delivering it when demand increases. This makes the electricity system more stable, more secure and more cost-effective.
The framework agreement with the energy storage company extends over a longer period and allows for continuous call-offs to support Sweden's energy supply.
