Groundbreaking ceremony for energy storage project in Vimmerby
A new energy storage facility in Vimmerby has taken an important step forward. OneCo is responsible for the groundworks and installation of the battery system, which will help to create a more stable and flexible electricity system.
The possibility of storing electricity locally is approaching in Vimmerby. On the Monday before Easter, representatives from Vimmerby municipality(opens in a new tab), the energy storage company, the property owner and OneCo to mark the start of construction. The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for battery parks has now been taken and work is underway.
Energy storage is used to store electricity when generation exceeds demand, and to release it again during periods of high demand. This can help to smooth out fluctuations in the electricity grid and reduce peak loads, which is particularly relevant as the proportion of weather-dependent electricity generation increases.
The plant is planned to have a capacity of around 20 MW and is targeted to be commissioned in 2024.
The impact of the plant on electricity costs and grid capacity needs depends, among other things, on how it is used and on developments in the local electricity system.
OneCo is responsible for the groundworks and the on-site installation of the battery system in Vimmerby. Work is in full swing and the facility is scheduled to come into operation in line with the project’s timetable.
